Indiana Jones 5 horrible news: 'Indy will lose his right eye' and THIS is why

What with all the escaping from rolling boulders, jumping off cliffs and terrifying heart-extracting rituals, let alone close encounters with ridiculous alien interdimentional ships, it’s amazing that Indy hasn’t lost any limbs or extremities at all so far.

Disney has recently confirmed that a fifth Indian Jones movie will hit cinemas on July 10, 2020.

Harrison Ford will be a ripe old 78 by then, which doesn’t just mean all the boulder-dodging may be a little more creaky.

It almost certainly means that his irrascible archeologist will also lose his right eye and George Lucas has already laid the groundwork for the shocking event. It sounds harsh, but it still beats being killed by your own son and pushed of a ledge like poor Han Solo in The Force Awakens.

It’s not as if Indy needs any reaso to be even more cranky than usual, but this may tip him over the edge.

One clever fan remembered that Indiana Jones has already been shown on screen as an old man. He was still wearing the iconic battered hat and leather jacket, but he had added a fetching eye patch.

Indy is not a man to wear anything that isn’t strictly functional so it is unavoidable that he will lose his eye at some point.

George Lucas created the 1992 TV show The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and episodes were bookended by the old Indiana Jones, played by veteran actor George Hall.

Reddit user Animation Bat argues: “This old Indiana Jones always had an eye patch over his right eye, and a long scar that starts on his forehead and goes through the eye and ends on his cheek.

The show is most likely still canon because it was created and developed by Indy’s creator George Lucas. Also, Harrison Ford actually appears in one episode as a 50 year old Indiana Jones.”

There is also a strong link to the 2008 big screen adventure, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The theory concludes: “Then, in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Indy describes his adventures with Pancho Villa from the pilot of the television series to Mutt.

“Considering the character’s age in the fifth installment, I think by the end of his adventure, we’ll finally see how Indiana Jones gets his scar and eye patch.”

Much as the idea of the eye patch is hugely tantalising, the ‘old Indy’ bookends were removed when the show was reissued on DVD. After all, it could make using that lasso a little tricky…
